About the Weihnachtsfest
The Millstadt Sister Cities Organization hosts the Annual Weihnachtsfest (German Christmas Festival) at the St. James Parish Fr. Freund Center in Millstadt, IL. This long-standing community tradition celebrates the area’s rich German heritage with authentic food, handmade crafts, and festive entertainment. Visitors can explore a craft fair featuring unique gifts, jewelry, apparel, and seasonal décor, along with a Holiday Cookie Walk offering homemade and traditional German treats. Authentic German cuisine—such as sauerbraten, bratwurst, schnitzel, potato pancakes, red cabbage, sauerkraut, and strudel—is a highlight of the celebration!
The festival also features a St. Nikolaus Parade, performances by local choirs, bands, and dance groups, and special appearances from Santa and Mrs. Claus for children and families. Admission is free, and proceeds benefit the Millstadt Sister Cities Youth Ambassador Exchange and other partnership programs with Groß-Bieberau, Germany, supporting opportunities for cultural exchange and international friendship.
